In English, "profanazione" translates to desecration, profanation, violation, or defilement, depending on the context. In this case, it refers to the controversial addition of pineapple on pizza. This painting offers a personal interpretation of the divisive dish, presented with a retro twist. By adding maraschino cherries in the middle of each pineapple ring, it thus blurs the line between a savoury pizza and a classic pineapple upside-down cake, this was intentional because many would say that fruit only belongs on desserts. This piece invites viewers to consider the question: where is the line drawn? If pineapple is acceptable to some, why not cherries?

An additional layer of playfulness is introduced through the canvas itself, which has been painted to resemble a takeaway pizza box. Decorative elements such as old-school red checkerboard print, a fictional pizzeria website, and simulated grease stains on the cardboard backdrop enhance the illusion and add to the work’s nostalgic charm.
